Makeup Tips for Winter

1/21/2012 Ruhie Kumar 8 Comments

Hey Lovelies..I'm experiencing Winter Blues :( :P Seriously, Isn't it time already for spring/summer anything!! Anyways just the other day I was getting ready for an evening party with one of my friend, and collective makeup session is always fun ;) Ain't it?? One single mirror caters to all thy feminine needs :D So we were putting in all kinds of permutation and combination in our makeup routine when I noticed that all the makeup ingredients that worked perfectly for me in summer, they failed to work in winter.

Relationship Status:The Reality Of Intimacy

1/16/2012 Ruhie Kumar 18 Comments

When a bud breaks, it becomes a flower. When a heart breaks, it becomes divine. A flower cannot break. What you thought was love, was not love. A broken heart means broken demands, broken expectations, broken hopes. In true love, there is no heartbreak. Can water break? Water is fluid. Love is fluid.Whatever is fluid is not brittle.Something that is stiff can be broken.Life is full of events, some pleasant, some unpleasant, some good, some not good. Many times you were doing something and, unintentionally , people got hurt. The same thing is true with other people also who have hurt you. And so you feel heartbroken or they feel heartbroken. This is not the nature of mature mind or of a mature love.

Five Simple Foods that help in Reducing Weight!!!

1/10/2012 Ruhie Kumar 8 Comments

Hey Cupcakes!
Today I'm doing a post on some specific foods which contain certain compounds found helpful in weight reduction. "Stay hungry , Stay foolish" very commonly heard, right?? Here is a list of some really amazing foods and  tips to reduce your weight while eating  :) So Stay Happy, Stay Fit  :)

1. Banana : It helps the weight reduction by supplying low calories, increasing urinary output and washing out the extra sodium chloride from the body.It is an excellent source of energy and nutrition without fat.

2. Cabbage : It is found to possess the maximum biological value with minimum calorific value. Research shows that cabbage has a valuable content called tartronic acid, which inhibits conversion of sugar and other carbohydrates into fat.A helping of cabbage and salad would be simplest way to stay slim and painless way of dieting.100 grams of cabbage yields only 27 kilocalories of energy, while the same quantity of wheat bread will yield about 240 calories. It gives a lasting feeling of fullness in the stomach and is easily digestible.

3. Lime : The juice of lime is an excellent food medicine for weight reduction.Fasting on lime juice honey water has been found beneficial in treatment of obesity without the loss of energy and appetite. In this method, one spoon of fresh honey should be mixed with a juice of half a lime in a glass of lukewarm water and taken at regular intervals.

4. Tomato: It is also a valuable food in reducing weight. One or two ripe tomatoes taken early morning without breakfast, for a couple of months is considered safe method of weight reduction, at the same time supplying the essential food elements which preserve the health.

5. Low-Salt Food: Restricting salt is an amazing way to slim down. The salt in our body retains water, so reducing the intake of salt will help in reducing weight with very less efforts. Studies have shown that it might help in reducing as much as one kilo and half kg in the first week. Reducing intake of salt also helps reduce the craving for food as salt is a stimulant and excites the appetite by increasing the flow of saliva, thus creating a greater desire for food.

beauty,

Alberto VO5 Tea Therapy Conditioner : Ingredient Check

1/07/2012 Ruhie Kumar 0 Comments

Ingredient Check:

Cetyl Alcohol: Fatty alcohol used as an emollient, emulsifier, thickener, and carrying agent for other ingredients. Can be derived naturally, as in coconut fatty alcohol, or synthetically. It is not an irritant and is not related to sd alcohol or ethyl alcohol.

Stearalkonium chloride: Antistatic ingredient used in hair-care products to control flyaways and aid in helping a brush or comb get through hair.

Cetrimonium chloride Used for detangling and smoothing hair. It also functions as an anti-static and emulsifier (keeps product from separating). This also inhibits the growth of organisms (like fungi, bacteria or yeast) in the product.

Glyceryl Stearate: Used as an emollient and thickening agent in cosmetics.

DMDM hydantion DMDM hydantoin : Preservative not too good

Disodium EDTA : Chelating ingredient that attracts the minerals away from the hair shaft and helps them rinse away. Good to use after swimming

Butylphenyl methylpropional : Synthetic fragrance with a floral-fresh scent. Fragrances may cause irritation. It's best not to use them on a baby's skin.

Hexyl Cinnamal : Fragrance ingredient. Has a floral-jasmine-waxy scent. Clear yellow liquid. Fragrances may cause irritation. It's best not to use them on a baby's skin.

Linalool : Fragrance with a floral, lily scent. Fragrances may cause irritation. It's best not to use them on a baby's skin. Fragrant component of lavender and coriander that can be a potent skin irritant, allergen, or sensitizer once it is exposed to air.

Benzyl alcohol: Can be drying and irritating in larger amounts. If it's low on the ingredient list, it's probably diluted enough that it wouldn't be a problem. —This is in some of my favorite conditioners, and so far, no problems—T

Coumarins    (aka Cumarin; Tonka Bean)
Used for fragrance that's made from tonka beans and several other plants, but can be made synthetically as well. May irritate the skin, and is not allowed to be used in foods because it's toxic when eaten [Winter pg 175].Organic compound found in plants and derived from the amino acid phenylalanine. It creates the fragrance in fresh-mowed hay. More than 300 coumarins have been identified from natural sources, especially green plants. These varying substances have disparate pharmacological, biochemical, and therapeutic applications. However, simple coumarins are potent antioxidants.

Polysorbate 20: Slight foaming and cleansing ingredient. Also used as an emulsifier, and for conditioning. This is too mild to be used on it's own as a cleanser, so it's often used with a stronger cleanser, or in baby products

Proplylene glycol    (aka 1,2-Propanediol)
: Humectant. This is a clear, colorless, thick liquid. Can penetrate the skin better than glycerin, but is less expensive. Second in moisture-carrying abilities only to water. Can also be used to dissolve ingredients (in the way that water can dissolve them). Along with other glycols and glycerol, this is a humectant or humidifying and delivery ingredient used in cosmetics. There are Web sites and spam e-mails stating that propylene glycol is really industrial antifreeze and that it is the major ingredient in brake and hydraulic fluids. These sites also state that tests show it is a strong skin irritant. They further point out that the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) on propylene glycol warns users to avoid skin contact because systemically (in the body) it can cause liver abnormalities and kidney damage. As ominous as this sounds, it is so far from the reality of cosmetic formulations that almost none of it holds any water or poses real concern.
It is important to realize that the MSDS sheets are talking about 100% concentrations of a substance. Even water and salt have frightening comments regarding their safety according to their MSDSs. In cosmetics, propylene glycol is used only in the smallest amounts to keep products from melting in high heat or freezing when it is cold. It also helps active ingredients penetrate the skin. In the minute amounts used in cosmetics, it is not a concern in the least. Women are not suffering from liver problems because of propylene glycol in cosmetics. And finally, according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, within the Public Health Services Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry, “studies have not shown these chemicals [propylene or the other glycols as used in cosmetics] to be carcinogens”
The Cosmetic Ingredent Review Board has analyzed all of the toxicology data and exposure studies concerning topical application of propylene glycol as it is commonly used in cosmetic products. Their conclusion was that it is safe as used and does not pose  a health risk to consumers.

Stearyl alcohol    (aka Octadecyl alcohol, C-18 alcohol)
Functions as a lubricant, thickener, and emollient. It's less greasy that plant or mineral oils, so it conditions with a velvety feel, without making hair greasy. Also used to keep product from separating Similar to Cetyl alcohol. This is a white, waxy solid that's insoluble in water. This is one of the ingredients I like to see near the top of a conditioner's ingredient list. When left in very curly hair it adds needed weight without being greasy.
Fatty alcohol used as an emollient and to help keep other ingredients intact in a formulation.

Steareth-21: Oily liquids used as cleansers and emulsifiers (keeps ingredients from separating into their oil and water components). The higher the number, the more solid. The lower, the more liquid.

Vanilla planifolia fruit extract:  Extract used primarily as a fragrance and flavoring agent. The vanilla plant is a source of catechins (also known as polyphenols), which exhibit antioxidant activity and serve as anti-inflammatory agents

Tocepheryl acetate    (aka Vitamin E)
Vitamin E. Okay for hair.

Panthenol:  Alcohol form of vitamin B.    (aka Pantothenic acid, Vitamin B5) Form of vitamin B. Functions as a hair conditioner only. Works better in a leave-in product because otherwise it’s easily rinsed away. Can moisturize the hair to make it feel softer. Pantotheric acid is able to penatrate deeply into the cortex of the hair, but it is not able to repair hair, nor make hair strand thicker.

Ascorbic acid    (aka Vitamin C) pH adjuster-makes product slightly acid. Form of vitamin C that has antioxidant properties.

Mentha Pipereta : Not good for hair :(

Niacinamide    (aka Vitamin B3; Niacin; Nicotinic acid) Used as a hair conditioning ingredient [Winter pg 366]. A white, odorless, crystal solid that's water soluble. This is found in tiny amounts in living cells. It's not likely that the teeny amounts used in a product can do anything for the hair, so it's mainly put in products for its marketing appeal, because it is a vitamin Also known as vitamin B3 and nicotinic acid, niacinamide is a potent cell-communicating ingredient that offers multiple benefits for aging skin. Assuming skin is being protected from sun exposure, niacinamide can improve skin's elasticity, dramatically enhance its barrier function, help erase discolorations, and revive skin's healthy tone and texture.
Topically applied niacinamide has been shown to increase ceramide and free fatty acid levels in skin, prevent skin from losing water content, and stimulate microcirculation in the dermis. It also has a growing reputation for being able to treat an uneven skin tone and to mitigate acne and the red marks it leaves behind (known as post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation). It is an excellent ingredient for those struggling with wrinkles and breakouts. Niacinamide is stable in the presence of heat and light.

Biotin: Also known as vitamin H, a water-soluble vitamin produced in the body by certain types of intestinal bacteria and obtained from food. Considered part of the B complex group of vitamins, biotin is necessary for the metabolism of carbohydrates, fats, and amino acids (the building blocks of protein). However, it has no reported benefit for skin when applied topically.

1/07/2012 Ruhie Kumar 6 Comments

Hey Lovelies :)
I'm magically captivated by the deliciously amazing smell of Alberto VO5 Tea Therapy Conditioner while I'm writing this post. I just brought this from my local dollar store yesterday. And I'm completely mesmerized. :) ;) :P

So the real question is: Why Am I in love with Alberto VO5 Conditioner even before I have used it??

Answer:
1. It smells heavenly!!!
2. It is one of the few sulfate free conditioner available in the market.
3. It's amazingly affordable. You get a whooping 443 ml for a mere Rs 150/- ( Ok I won't lie,I got it for Rs 134/- :P but it's originally prized Rs 150/- ) Comparing it with my recent conditioner from Modicare 100ml for Rs 83/- .
4. No silicones and no parabens !!!!
5. There is such a huge variety to choose from !!!

Maybelline Haul: 15% discount advantage

1/06/2012 Ruhie Kumar 13 Comments

Hey lovelies :)
How you doing. I'm reviewing today two of Maybelline's products.

Maybelline Collosal Kajal

Pros:
1. Smooth
2. Easy to apply
3. Glides on easily
4. Gives a dark color in three stroke
5. Can be used as liner also ( Does an amazing job, gives a deep black color)
6. Easy to carry
7. Lasts till 6 hrs
8. Elegant packaging (Awesome I should say,I love the color combination,it looks so chic :D )
9. No irritation in eyes
10. Totally waterline friendly
11. Quantity not much
12. Only 6 hr lasting ( But honestly I think that is good enough for the price )

Final Verdict:
Maybelline's Collosal Kajal costs Rs 150, but you can easily find amazing deals these days. We got this from pantaloons and there was this whooping 15% discount , so it was priced Rs 127. But if you don't get this deal available around your home, you can go for buying it online too. GoodLife and Violet Bag offers 4 to 5 % discounts .You can find the link to the sites on the sidebar :)
It is a decent kajal but it tends to evaporate :P If you understand what I'm trying to say :D ( or maybe I think my eyes ate em up ). The search for the Ultimate kohl/kajal is never ending, but collosal is pretty decent. Definitely Recommended. :)

Maybelline Lip Smooth Color and care balm

It's a pretty and easy to use and handle lip balm :) I am totally impressed by the way Maybelline presents their products.I mean just look at this little fellow. It is so cute. And ofc It matches my nail color :D Did you know I won that nail paint in a giveaway :D , but that's another story ;)

Pros:
1. It has spf 16 !! It's very important to protect your lips from those evil yet amazingly delicious ( esp in these winters ) sunny rays.
2. Simply Moisturizing, it gives no icky sticky feeling.
3. It's tinted and is available in different colors. So you can chose your favorite color and rock the house with amazing looking lips.
4. A very sweet smell, nothing too overpowering. And the fragrance doesn't linger too long. So it won't be a problem for the beauties with sensitive sensories ;)
5. Definitely Travel Friendly and super cute packaging. Something you can take to a party or your college to protect your lovely lips :)
6.It has a more compact size than its Nivea counterpart so That way it is definitely more travel friendly.

Final Verdict
Did I say supercute :P I'm discriminate towards cute thingies :D so I definitely like it a lot ( Yess I didn't say love because my first love will always be Nivea Fruity Shine ) It doesn't have an amazing lasting power and you might find your hands searching for it from time to time. That is the only con I suppose :) It costs Rs 99/- I got it for Rs 84/- ;) ( I lovvve Discounts )

Maybelline BB Cream
Yes it has been finally launched in India. But it has not reached the counters yet :( I'm pretty much excited about this product. It's very famous in many parts of the world and is said to be able to revolutionize your skincare regime, as it's an all in one product with the power of 8 benefits to instantly brighten, even tone, hydrate, conceal, smooth, mattify, freshen and protect with SPF 21/PA+++ . All this for an affordable price of Rs 199/- only :D . I'm dying to get my hands over this product.
So that's all for the Maybelline talk :P
Loads of love
Keep Smiling

Fruit of the Earth: Arnica and Tea Tree Shampoo

1/06/2012 Ruhie Kumar 10 Comments

Hey Cupcakes,

Today I'm reviewing my latest shampoo. It is a Modicare product. "Fruit Of The Earth: Arnica and Tea Tree Shampoo". My lovely Sister-in-law introduced me to Modicare products and I must agree they are not bad. Winter always tends to bring in dandruff and so when I visted the Modicare shop, this product particularly caught my eyes ;) Top in the fact that it has Tea Tree Oil. And I couldn't stop myself from indulging in this golden beauty :)

What It Claims:
A potent double action formulation for dandruff-free hair all year round.Nature's own remedy for dandruff and problem scalp. This potent formulation with a unique double action, helps remove dandruff and restores scalp health, so that fresh dandruff does not form. Also nourishes and moisturizes hair.

Neem: The most powerful natural antiseptic, anti fungal and sporicidal. Helps remove infections from scalp.

Arnica: Anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory. Removes dandruff and heals damaged scalp.

Tea Tree Oil: Natural antiseptic.Restores healthy scalp.

Cost: 100 ml for Rs 83/-

Ingredient Check

Sodium Laureth Sulfate: It is a detergent cleanser.Widely found in hair products. Not too good. But okay for hair.

Polyquat 7: This is good for hair.It helps in conditioning the hair.Helps the shampoo foam better.

Phenoxy ethanol : This is mostly used for its conditioning and emollient properties. Okay for hair.

Tea Tree Oil :Used to fight microbes that cause dandruff. Okay for hair if your aim is to fight dandruff  :)

My Experience:

Pros:

1. Mild Shampoo
2. Herbal, good for daily usage esp for dry hair.
3.Thick consistency
4. Mild Fragrance. It has a sort of herbal smell to it but it doesn't come off too strong so as to be irritating.
5. Didn't strip my hair dry.
6. Sturdy Packaging. Travel Friendly

Cons:

1. Didn't miraculously help with the dandruff. But did clear up the mess to a great extent.
2. Didn't make my hair dry but they weren't conditioned either. The shampoo bottle suggests using "Fruit of The Earth: Almond and Aloe Vera Conditioner" for best results.
3. Availability is an issue.Only available through Modicare Stores.

Final Word:

This is a decent shampoo and can be used for everyday use. Might be much more effective that way I guess.  But I never shampoo my hair everyday :P Anyways I have a very bad habit of comparing every anti dandruff shampoo with my HG anti dandruff shampoo Ketomac I reviewed it a few days back on my friend Pooja's Blog Indian Beauty Central. You can See The Review Here  .

That's all.Hope you Like the review.
Keep Smiling
